Chinese fortune cookie restart twittering

Twitter is a free microblogging tool. It enables its users to send and read other users' posts known as tweets. Tweets are up to 140 characters in length, you can read them on the page of the user and subscribed to them, so become a follower.

You can send and receive tweets via the Twitter site, SMS or tools as Tweetdeck. Its free, although SMS not.

We started when Twitter wasn't that big, so we didn't have much followers.
It's now huge and we decided to start again with two groups, one is coming together in a library in Dordrecht and the other group is twittering from home, working space or university, sometimes coming together in Dikt, that's near the library in Rotterdam.

We're most Chinese, the Dikt-group is speaking English, because we're of different parts in China and cannot understand the Chinese dialects / slang we're speaking. We all understand the old Chinese texts, the famous proverbs and love old literature.

Rita Niland, working in one of our schools and a library, started the groups, made this blog for our group, is collecting the old Chinese books for us, assists us with translate fortune cookies in English or Dutch.

So, if you like Chinese fortune cookies, follow one of our twitter accounts: fortune_cookie (english and chinese or pinyin), gelukskoekje in dutch and chinese or pinyin, or gelukskoekjes, only in dutch.

And of course we hope our lucky numbers bring you success.

Guan Zhong accompanied Load Huan of Qi in attacking Guzhu.
Spring passed, winter returned.

Guan Zhong en Load Huan of Qi gingen op weg naar Guzhu om deze aan te vallen.
De lente was voorbij, het werd weer winter.
Ze verdwaalden, hadden de verkeerde weg genomen.
Guan Zhong zei:
"We moeten de wijsheid van een oud paard gebruiken.
Laat de paarden los en volg ze.
Ze brengen ons op de goede weg.

Moraal: De ervaring van iemand kan waardevol zijn.

-What's a fortune cookie and can it bring me luck?

The Fortune Cookie is a delicate, crisp cookie made from flour, sugar, butter, vanilla, and milk which is baked around a piece of paper with words of wisdom or prophecy. The message inside may include a list of lucky numbers and a Chinese phrase with translation.

History
The history of fortune cookies dates back to the 13th century. China was occupied by the Mongols. Traditional lotus nut paste moon cakes were used to hide secret messages, with the date of a popular uprising against the invaders. The cakes were distributed by the patriotic revolutionary Chu Yuan Chang who was safe because the Mongols had no taste for lotus nut paste. The uprising was successful and so the basis of the Ming Dynasty was formed.  San Francisco, USA also claims the origin of the fortune cookie in 1909.

Wie wij zijn...
Onze groep bestaat uit 22 mensen uit Rotterdam en omstreken met zeven verschillende nationaliteiten waarvan een kwart van Chinese afkomst. De jongste is 10 jaar en van Chinees-Surinaamse afkomst, de oudste is 81 en geboren in China. Onze groep is gestart op initiatief van Rita Niland, die via project Communities van Bibliotheek Rotterdam sinds 1999 groepen begeleidt die bezig zijn met digitale activiteiten. Onze groep heet Digikring Fortune_cookie

Wat wij doen... 
Sinds 18 juli 2007 hebben wij een account bij Twitter. Vrijwel dagelijks posten wij op http://twitter.com/fortune_cookie minimaal één chinese fortune cookie per dag.  De cookies zijn meestal in het Engels, de taal die wij onderling spreken.
